GPYO Orchestra Festival

Sunday, January 28, 2018, 3:00pm
Patriot Theater at War Memorial, Trenton, NJ
Tickets available here

This year’s festival will feature all four GPYO ensembles and Guest soloist, Mr. Roger Nye, Bassoonist, New York Philharmonic. He will be performing two pieces with our Symphonic Orchestra: Mozart concerto in Bb Major, first movement, and Edward Elgar Romance for Bassoon and Orchestra.

Roger Nye has been the Second Bassoonist of the New York Philharmonic since 2005, when he was selected by Lorin Maazel to join the orchestra. Prior to joining the Philharmonic he held the same position with the Omaha Symphony. In addition, he also held tenured Principal positions with the South Dakota Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Sydney Symphony in Sydney, Australia.

Mr. Nye is on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and the Mason Gross School of the Arts of Rutgers University. He is sought after for not only his bassoon teaching and concept of sound but in particular for his instruction in Reed-making, and he has given Masterclasses around the world.

Roger makes his home in South Brunswick, NJ, with his wife Caroline Park, son, Zeke and daughter Ysabelle, and their two standard poodles, Barkleigh and Ranger.
