About Us
The Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra is proud to be celebrating over 60 years of delighting audiences and educating young musicians. GPYO's mission is to provide excellent training and performance opportunities for students seeking a challenging musical ensemble experience, and to cultivate a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Originally The Mercer County Symphonic Orchestra, the GPYO ensembles have grown welcome musicians from second grade through high school by competitive audition.
The GPYO has five ensembles during the school year: Symphonic Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Chamber Winds Ensemble, Camerata Strings Ensemble, and the Preparatory Strings Ensemble. All ensembles rehearse weekly on Monday evenings at the historic campus of Westminster Choir College in downtown Princeton and perform at least 2 concerts annually. In addition to ensemble rehearsals and concerts, students have access to sectionals and masterclasses with professional musicians, educational workshops, and The Matteo Giammario Concerto Competition, named for the founder of the orchestra, Maestro Matteo Giammario.
